What is an interior fit-out?

‘Fit-out’ is the broad term used to describe the process of making an interior space fit for occupation.  This procedure can be further broken down into three categories of fit-out, namely ‘shell and core’, ‘category A’ and ‘category B’.

What is a Shell & Core fit-out?

The Shell and Core generally refers to the basic internal framework of a building such as the structure and cladding.  This can include such areas as receptions, lobbies, staircases, washrooms and basements, for example.  Generally at this stage the exterior of the building will look complete, however the interior will be an empty shell.

What is Category A fit-out?

A Cat A fit-out will result in a basic finish level to an industrial standard, including raised floors, suspended ceilings, mechanical and electrical services and internal surface finishes.

What is Category B fit-out?
